Hello! I’m Mark Bland — the founder and heart behind Sparrk Studios. The name “Sparrk” comes from a nickname I was given during my early career as a professional model in Europe and the U.S. After living in Barcelona for three years, I returned to the States where my friends thought my last name, Bland, was a bit too “bland.” So they started calling me “Mark Spark.” To make it even more unique, I added an extra “r” — and Sparrk Studios was born. And yes, I promise, Sparrk is completely safe!
I’m a lifelong musician and guitarist who spent more than 30 years in global business leadership before retiring early to return to the work that matters most to me — making honest, dynamic, emotionally grounded music.
After serving as Vice President of Information Systems for a Fortune 500 company, overseeing operations across 26 locations in 22 countries, I stepped away from corporate life and immediately enrolled in formal audio training. I’ve been recording and mixing for years, but structured mixing, mastering, and production education sharpened my ears, refined my workflow, and helped me develop a clear sonic philosophy.
I believe in natural sound, musical dynamics, and subtlety. I don’t overprocess. I don’t chase loudness. I focus on clarity, space, and emotional impact — the things that make music feel alive.
My background shapes how I listen. My mother enrolled me in conservatory classes when I was five, my dad bought me my first guitar at ten, and I spent my school years singing in select choirs and playing trumpet in band. Those early experiences taught me to hear nuance, blend, dynamics, and emotion long before I understood the technical side of recording.
My years as an executive shaped how I communicate — clearly, respectfully, and with intention. I’m organized, reliable, and selective about the artists I work with. I’m not driven by volume or billing. I’m here to help musicians make the best work they’ve ever made.
I’ve spent years studying flamenco guitar, and that music taught me to hear nuance, dynamics, and emotional phrasing in a way that still shapes my engineering today.
Recent projects include Tradición Viva by Ensemble Ibérica, where I recorded at Greenwood Social Hall and handled all the mixing and mastering for the release. I work best with artists who value authenticity, collaboration, and a sound that feels honest rather than manufactured. I’m highly collaborative and value all input — different viewpoints lead to the best results.
I started writing and recording songs at 18, and like most musicians, my early work was rough (and sometimes cheesy — we’ve all been there). Songwriting is something you grow into; you refine your voice over time. That understanding shapes how I work with artists today. For me, music is the language of feeling — it transcends culture and speaks directly to the soul.
My goal is simple: a small roster of
artists I can genuinely help — and music that stands the test of time.
Music is a universal force with the power to shape emotions, evoke memories, and even transform perceptions. Science shows that music activates multiple areas of the brain simultaneously, especially those tied to motor skills and cognitive function. Nothing else lights up the brain like music does. It resonates uniquely with every individual, making it deeply personal and powerful — and that’s why I produce.
